Original Post:

        <snip>
        Is the syncing of filesystems now a system function rather
        than a cron job? If so, how can I change the frequence or
        even disable it?
        <snip>

There are two tunable parameters:

        tune_f_fsflush
                Takes an integer argument which specifies the frequency
                (in seconds) of the fsflush routine being called
                within the kernel. This affects incremental page writes.

        autoup
                Again takes an integer which specifies the frequency of
                full page writes from memory to disk.
