SUMMARY: Help adding a tape drive to Solaris 2.5.1

My original question was:

I have a new Solaris 2.5.1 box that I configured a few months ago. We had an
Exabyte SCSI tape drive (8mm) on a SunOS 4.1.4 box that I now want to use on
the Solaris box. However, I can't figure out how to a) create the entries in
the device table, and b) make the kernel recognize the tape drive at boot time.

I read the man pages for 'tapes' and 'drvconfig' but they weren't too helpful.
The two ZD books I have on Solaris administration were of no help either.

What do I need to do to the Solaris box, that I built and configured *without*
a tape drive, to make it recognize the new tape drive?

What I needed was a "reconfiguration boot". You can make one happen by:

        1. boot -r at the OK prompt

        2. touch /reconfigure and it will happen the next time you
            boot

Dan Brainard noted, "Note that a reconfiguration boot will add
devices, it will not remove unused definitions, it will overlay any
old ones that are replaced with newer ones."

Several others mentioned running:

        # drvconfig
        # tapes
