I have a sparc20 with a ross hypersparc 150mhz cpu running solaris 2.4,
> this machine after 18 months of solid use now watchdog resets in the middle of the night when activity is low, however during the day when usage is high(it serves as an nfs server) it runs fine. The system hangs with watchdog reset but does not reboot(no input can be made at the ok prompt)I must cycle the power to bring it back up. I loaded patch 101945-46 hoping this would correct the problem only now sometimes it just locks up (no messages) or will wacthdog reset but not reboot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
the answer is :
there is no real answer: some responses suggested hardware/cpu problems, reseating simms, and checking that a/c was not shutting down at night causing the cpu to overheat. In any event as mysteriously as the problem started so has it gone away without me doing a thing except loading up 101945-46 kernel patch, I dont think this solved it as it did watchdog reset once after the patch was installed.
Also I forgot to change the eeprom setting to:watchdog-reboot?=true so if the machine does do a watchdog reset it will reboot automatically.
