many thanks to everyone who responded to my question on minfree:

the equivalent Solaris command is "fstyp -v":

        fstyp -v /dev/dsk/c0t3d0s0 | grep minfree

mark hargrave pointed me to a very useful URL where Sun provides
a table of BSD commands and the equivalent System V command:

several people also pointed out that "mkfs -m" will give the
command line used to create the file system which contains the
free value:

# mkfs -m /dev/dsk/c0t2d0s1
mkfs -F ufs -o
nsect=111,ntrack=19,bsize=8192,fragsize=1024,cgsize=16,free=10,rps=90,nbpi=2048,opt=t,apc=0,gap=0,nrpos=8,maxcontig=7 /dev/dsk/c0t2d0s1 2140634

this assumes that tunefs has not been used to change the minfree
parameter which was the case here.
