Summary:
As I suspected, the 2GB filesize limit under Solaris 2.5 and under
applies even to the venerable Veritas Volume Manager. This limit
will increase when Solaris 2.6 (64-bit OS) becomes available.

Much thanks to those who responded.

With Solaris 2.4, 2.5 you are limited to 2G.

"Trevor Paquette" <tpaquett@aec.ca>
        2GB.. until Solaris 2.6

Casper Dik <casper@holland.Sun.COM>
2GB. The limitation is not in the filesystem (veritas, ufs and
NFS v3 all support files bigger than 2GB in principle), but
it's a system call interface limitation in the kernel. So
whatever filesystem you get, 2GB is the max (until you run
        Solaris 2.6)

file size is a limitation of the operating system.

file size on up to Solaris 2.5 is 2GByte.
file size from Solaris 2.6 is 64bit addressable.

Note however, that applications need to be lage-file aware to
be able to access >2GB files. this includes, but is not limited
        to, fopen64 and fseek64.

Under Solaris 2.4, the filesize limit is 2GB. (It has been 2GB
ever since SunOS was ported to the 32bit platform).

With Solaris 2.6 and the partial port to a 64Bit OS, the limit
        will be raised again.
