Subject: Bad NIS problem

When a user whose home directory is not on the "problem" machine (SS10
4.1.4) attempts to login (ie the dir is NFS mounted) , it dumps them in
/... if I try to su to their account, I get "No directory". Their
directory is mounted though, as it shows up on df, and there is a link to
it from /home/directory to /tmp_mnt/home/directory. I don't see any
obvious permission problems... any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm
taking a lot of heat for this.

The answer:

While mucking about in a users directory I had done a chmod 600 .*,
(as root) which matched .. = /tmp_mnt/home.

Thanks to all who will soon respond. No thanks to me for pulling such a
jackass stunt.

ps remember... don't do something as root you can do as a mere mortal!
