Hi,

My original question is attached below. I still haven't solved my
problem, so help are still appreciated.

Thanks to

"Karl E. Vogel" <vogelke@c17mis.region2.wpafb.af.mil>
 Tim Carlson <tim@santafe.edu>
 popp@corpmail.nwest.attws.com (Jeff Popp)
 Ross Stocks <ROSS.STOCKS.PSD36651@nt.com>

who all suggested me to do the restore interactive. I did with
ufsrestore -if <dumpfile>, and that command also got into a
loop:

ufsrestore -if ufsdump.7.c0t2d0s7
...
ufsrestore > extract

Unless you know which volume your file(s) are on you should start
with the last volume and work towards the first.

Hi,

I have a level 4 dump-file on my filesystem, which I cannot
restore. Here is what I do:

#/usr/sbin/ufsrestore fx ufsdump.4.c0t2d0s7
You have not read any volumes yet.
Unless you know which volume your file(s) are on you should start
with the last volume and work towards the first.
Specify next volume #: 1

.. after a while it says ....

Mount volume 2
then enter volume name (default: ufsdump.4.c0t2d0s7)

.. if I just type return, it says

Wrong volume (1)
Mount volume 2
then enter volume name (default: ufsdump.4.c0t2d0s7)

How do I get out of this loop, and continue with the restore?

As far as I know, the dumpfile has never been to tape, it has been
made directly onto a filesystem, and put into our nfs based archieve
system.
