Hi,

It an updated version of the summary devoted to Xterminal emulators on
diskless PC.

I would like to thank following all who promptly responded:

My original message:

>Xterminal emulator, so that we could use them as Xterminals (we have
>Sun connected to the same cable). The problem is that these PC's
don't

The following options were suggested:
1) Solaris x86
2) Linux - it is not sure, whether it is possible to boot Linux from
bootROM; the rumor is, some of our students did it - unfortunately,
we have holiday now; our prefered option, because it is free

"I can't imagine Linux having a problem with this. It's been
designed to boot from just about anywhere. If all else fails, and
you can read the boot media from DOS, you can even load Linux from
DOS (not into DOS, it over-writes the DOS memory image). If you
have any problem with this, send a message to a linux newsgroup,
and you'll probably get solutions as quickly as from the sun-
    managers list."

"just as I've seen "Linux" I remembered that the German computer
magazin "IX" had a project to use Linux as an Xterminal (also
diskless). Take a look at "http://www.heise.de/ix". The article
came out early this ... The neccessary Linux stuff you'll find in
    ftp.heise.de:/pub/ix/Linux
    iX-Terminal
iX-Terminal-ELF (newer version of Linux with ELF support)
There are a few shops where you can get a BOOTROM for PCs.
Probably you'll get them also at Emedia (close or owned by Heise
    Verlag). http://www.emedia.de"

3) something wrong with installation of exceed
4) Xappeal: ftp://ftp.xtreme.it/ or
   http://sunsite.icm.edu.pl/pub/simtel/msdos/xwindows
"It is an MSDOS based Xserver and can use font services if need be.
Based on XFree86 3.11 and cheap to purchase. 30 day demo is
available." Interesting for us, because some of our PCs are too
slow to run Win based emulator efficiently; next candidate if
   Linux path fails;
5) Chameleon/NetManage www.netmanage.com (for MSWin)
6) XOnNet (by ftp) www.ftp.com (for MSWin)
7) eXcursion - couldn't locate more information about the product
8) NetBSD
"You don't just have Linux in this camp. The NetBSD distribution
comes with the code to make your own boot roms and is also
    free."

I've read SUMMARY devoted x-term on laptop and tried Graph-ON's GO-
Global (for MSWin). Really nice. If we had enough money, I would voted
in favor of it; 10 USER licence (EDU): $2295. It is #3 on my list.

I've gathered some information about software, which enables using
PC's as X terminals on WWW page
