you have to package'ize an already installed instance of Oracle. you
can use the oracle install tool to determine what you want the distribution
to contain, then freeze this and use the root.sh scripts in the install
directory with all the other init scripts to had configure the final
package install. this is of course unsupported by oracle but is
not too difficult and because all you're doing is moving binaries around
is safe. when the install scripts run then you create all your raw
partitions or dbf files and then populate them back later from imports
or ...

I would LOVE to hear what you come up with. After looking at this problem
myself, I was leaning toward having to do a "prototype install", generate a
ufsdump image, and then do all my installs from that image via ufsrestore
and
then a bunch of tweaking via script...

I must say I hope I never have to talk to Oracle Tech support again.
After a week of phone calls, phone tag, Restateing my question again and
again
and STILL no answer from there tech support, I have been asked to please
email
my question to them via email !!!! Even after I had already been assigned
a tar #.
Then my request will go thru an evaluation process to bump up its status in
the
queue. Which was estamated to be aprox. a week.

a contractor (Ken Macleod) has pointed me to orainst/oradocm utility on
Oracles CD
under APPENDIX B. Oracle Installer Information in reference to using
Installer in
Silent Mode.

#First must install manually to acquire a response file created by orainst
$ ./orainst /m /rspdest filename

#Then add this syntax to out autoinstall scripts
$ ./orainst /m /respsrc filename /install products /silent
#products is a comma-separated list

Have not gotten that far to try an install yet, so might have to do
something via chroot
but at least there IS a solution. Thanks for the reponses.
