My original query started out like this...
>I have a modem hanging off of the first serial port (Port A)
>of Sun Ultra 1, running Solaris 2.5. The modem is a MultiTech
>When I "tip" to the port I get the expected "connected" prompt,
>1. when I type "AT" I can't see it, and...
>2. when I hit <RET> I don't get an "OK" back.
I got a lot of different advice... all the stuff you see in a
modem FAQ sheet... basically all things I'd thought of or tried.
In the end, one person suggested trying something I hadn't
thought of... The suggestion came from Steve Turgeion
(email@example.com). This is what he said...
> Take a paper clip and short pins 2 and 3 of the modem cable
> together. Tip to the port and type. You should see what you
> have typed. If that doesn't work, short at the Ultra port.
> (this will eliminate the cable) If that still doesn't work, then
> I think that the port is fried. Try configuring port B and run
> the same test. Steve
I tried this and didn't see any character stream. I called Sun
and told them. The machine is new and under warrenty. They sent
a new motherboard. It's working fine now.
Thanks for all the help to the following Sun managers:
