The original question:

>> I am running Solstice Backup 4.1.2 on a Solaris 2.5 server. Some of my
>> clients intermittently report the following error:
>> hostname:/ save: unknown file type 0150000 for /etc/.name_service_door
>> This is only occuring on Solaris 2.5 clients, not all 2.5 clients, and
>> not every night.
>> 1. What is this file?
>> 2. Why is Solstice Backup reporting this error on this file?

The definitive answer from Sun (from this list):

>> This problems happen only on sol 2.5. the file /etc/.name_service_door is not bached up.
>> this is fixed in 4.2.

I guess I should ask the followup question... how does one end up with
Solstice Backup 4.2 is you recently puchased 4.1.2?

More expansive is:

>1. What is this file?

USed by nscd as a fast IPC mechanism

>2. Why is Solstice Backup reporting this error on this file?

It should ignore the file, but the file type is new so it can't know about
