Hi admins..

Sorry for the delay in this SUMMARY...but I'd had trouble :)

The original question was:

>Hi admins..
>I am a bit new to SUN administering, I work usually in HPUX.
>I have several CDROMs of Solaris 2.3 and 2.4, we use 2.4 and in this
>single 2.4 CDROM there is a subdir called Patches.
>There is no "nice" document telling you if you should install these
>Patches or not. There is a README doc in the / of the CDROM that
>talks about Patches for SunOs 4.1.1 to use NIS+ ,etc...
>The CDROM says Hardware 3/95 and it is the Installable version of
>Solaris 2.4 (I think), I isn't no Answerbook. :)
>Can anyone assist me in if I should install these patches or not??
>I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Thanks to all the poeple who responded.

The responses were sumarrized

1./ Yes, Install the patches for your OS, but not from the CDROM, because
they are out of date...look at
and check if you have some patches installed already with:
showrev -p
or simply looking at the /var/sadm/patch subdir

nice response.....from (Stan Borinski)

2./ Get the latest patches from or

3./ Forget it and install Solaris 5 which is faster and more robust.

4./ get Jumbo Kernel Patch 101945-3*

Thanks to all the people who replied and now I have work to do :)
