Hi there

Suddenly I have some serious problem with my license server.

I have some Sparcwork products like c,c++ and fortran.
I use redundat servers ( three servers rhino, bison and panther)

         Platform: rhino --------- SS10 running sol 2.3
                   bison --------- SS10 running sol 2.3
panther --------- Sparc Classic running 2.3

I was using this license file for the last 14 months without any problem.
I use to start the suntechd from some /etc/init.d file.

In the last few days the license daemon is behaving very strangely.

First it started refusing to compile on server A saying
prompt> f77 ican.f -o ican $lpg
SPARCompiler Fortran: Licensing: encryption code in license file is inconsistent

But it used to compile on bison and C.

But today it refused to compile on all the machines.

the license.log file for server rhino is here

Connection to master ( rhino ) fails and so no compilation is possible.

So I couldnot compile anything on any machine.

Later I changed the order of servers rhino and bison in my license.dat file there
by making bison as the master. Then I was able compile on bison and panther but
not from rhino

Now I am not able to compile anything on my server rhino and it
is a SERIOUS HANDICAP for us. Please HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

A Summary will follow if there is enough interest.

A couple of things you want to be careful about are that bison, panther,
and rhino use the same port. Also before starting up your license
file make SURE lmgrd or the suntechd are not running on any of your
hosts. Best wishes Rama...

Subject: Flexlm problem, Segmentation violation

Hello,

I will try to summarize what I know, I am not so sure if that will help.

1) Segmentation violation:
We experienced this at one time when the application s/w had a bug
and therefore, it was not competable with the installed operating
   system release.
Was anything changed on your system (major, or minor)
Mathlab migth be accessing a file that got modified due to a
new s/w installation, or patch, or anything. Or due to change of
path now accesing a different s/w...
Is it possible to use "truss" to see what it is doing before the
   segmentation violation.
e.g issue "truss mathlab" (please refer to man pages for truss use)
2) license related problems:
Yes, we had similar problems. It was experienced just after some
new license installation. (However, later on appeared again when
we tired to re-install the license- Unfortunately, the documentation
at that time was not much of anything).

I have very little experience on this, but your license file content
has 2 sunpro.c entries one for 10, and other for 1. Are you running
two different licenses of same version of the application ?

lmgrd messages: socket being used- if the previous connection is
not gracefully terminated at one side of the connection the port
migth still be allocated. Since the s/w uses the value in the
licensedata file (port 1726), lmgrd will go to port 1726 each
time it is setting up itself.

Hope it helps. If you have any questions please feel free to write
back.

Good Luck,

   Alev

I tried what their suggestions and it didn't help me.

Since you are so desperate. it's not much but ...
The only thing I could think of is the order of libraries are defined in
LD_LIBRARY_PATH or other problem with libraries.

Hello,

What I found out about license managers is that they are all not equal. When installing another application which requires a license manager, I always need to spend a lot of time determining the best order in the license.dat file for my configuration. At my site, I placed the MatLab daemon before other daemons and the MatLab feature before the other features.

Also, my general rule of thumb is to use the latest version of 'lmgrd' for all applications.

What is the output of your 'lmstat' command. Does it show some features up or all down?

Sometimes the 'lmdown' command does not shut down all processes which were started by 'lmgrd'. 'ps -ef' to make sure the other processes are killed (ie., like suntechd) before starting the license manager again.

Hope this helps.

Seems like your OS/libraries may be corrupted ... Have you tried the basic step of re-installing the OS on this machine ?? This seems to be your best bet at this point of time. A quick jumpstart shouldn't take more than 30 minutes ....

This will atleast eliminate the software aspect of the problem and if the problem persists, you should start on the lines of hardware problems ....

You may be having a hardware problem with floating point processing. I have seen this before. The first thing I would try is swapping this ss10 "pizza box" with another one if you have one. See if the problem follows the box or the system disk.

Hope this helps.

I'd suggest rebooting that system in single user mode and doing an fsck on that filesystem. Looks like something in the superblock is not correct.

Thanks a lot for all you people..........

And John D. Schneider got it correct. The problem is with my Floating Point Unit.

One more thanks John.

Now the second question. can this be fixed or i have to get a new CPU? ( the warranty is over for this machine )
