SUMMARY: NIS/DNS sendto problem

In a recent posting, after configuring NIS and DNS I complained:
>... I can see systems in my domain (.syrres.com) without an entry
>in my /etc/hosts file, but I cannot see systems outside my domain. Thus,
>"ping any_known_system.syrres.com" or "ping any_known_system" works,
>but "ping home.netscape.com" gives me:
>
>sendto: Network is unreachable
>
>This appears to be the same configuration as a Sparc 10 running SunOS
>4.1.3, so what'd I do wrong?

I fixed this by altering the router table with:

# route add default 123.456.567.899 0

where 123.456.567.899 is the IP address of a gateway, and Voila, I could
ping systems anywhere!

For these changes to take affect upon reboot, I create an
/etc/defaultrouter file:

# vi /etc/defaultrouter
123.456.567.899

Thanks to everyone who helped.
