Summary of Solaris have a "Top" utility?...

The answer is that Solaris 2.4 and 2.5 don't come with the "top" utility
but the Newer version of top 3.3 will work on both versions..
I had a copy of an older version 3.0...which will not work on Solaris 2.4..
Read on to see specifics on where you can get this utility...

thanks for the pointers :-)

Subject: Solaris have a "Top" utility?...

Hi all,

I know this has been asked before...but I haven't found it in the archives...

Does Solaris 2.4 have a "top" utility for cpu usage...I found a copy I
believe it was Version 3 of the public domain version...it does not seem to
be built for Solaris ... is there another version around that will work
on solaris

Yes. I ftp'ed top v3.3 from eecs.nwu.edu (in /pub/top directory).

I used the script "Configure" and selected "sunos54" as the module, and
accepted the defaults of all other inquiries. This generated a .defaults
file in the directory.

I then ran "make install" to compile top.

I`ve included below a compiled binary for Solaris 2.4 for a sun4m system

Version 3.3 works well for Solaris (check eecs.nwu.edu:/pub/top)

The version of top that I have (3.3) has modules for compiling it for
sunos5 (Solaris 2.x). Snag a copy of the package from your favorite ftp
site (or find it using archie) and simply compile it on your 2.4 machine.

Yes there is, I've got a copy which I've included below, it's uuencoded.

$ uudecode /tmp/top.uuencoded
$ su -

# chmod 700 /tmp/top
# chown root /tmp/top
# cp /tmp/top /usr/local/bin/top

Hope this was what you were after

Look for version 3.3, available from many sites, including
eecs.nwu.edu:/pub/top.

from our copy of top running on SOlaris 2.4:

> Top version 3.3, Copyright (c) 1984 through 1993, William LeFebvre

From: Matus Uhlar <uhlar@ccduck.ke.sanet.sk>

the newest version of TOP is 3.3, you get it from eecs.nwu.edu.
I have TOP-3.3 for Classic (sun4c arch) on
ccnews.ke.sanet.sk:/pub/solaris/2.4bin

From: Andreas Stuebinger <stuebing@fmi.uni-passau.de>

You can find 3.3beta6 at ftp.warwick.ac.uk:/pub/misc/top-3.3beta6.tar.gz
or ask archie for the nearest location to you.

However, this version still has problems with Solaris 2.5, but runs
ok on Solaris 2.4.

If you get a pointer to a Solaris 2.5 version would you please be so
kind to forward or send a summary?

From: Michel Pilon <pilonm@ccg.rncan.gc.ca>

top 3.3 for Solaris can be downloaded at ftp://eecs.nwu.edu/pub/top/.
If you wish I can send you the binary version we are running.

top v3.3 ftp://eecs.nwu.edu/pub/top

We run it on Solaris 2.4, 2.5

I've compiled top v3 on Solaris 5.4 using gcc and gotten it to work. If
you want, I can mail you a copy of the binary.
