Original question:

} I'm having the following problem under Solaris 2.5 with xntp. The latest
} xntp release will compile out, you just need to change references to the
} kernel from /kernel/unix to /kernel/genunix.
} The problem I'm having is when I try to run tickadj, I get
} % ./tickadj
} ./tickadj: read fails: Bad address
} Apparently, the tick parameter has disappeared from this kernel. Anyone
} solve this problem?

The tickadj call in our rc2.d startup script must have been a hold over
from Solaris 2.1 days. It's no longer needed now, but didn't break until
Solaris 2.5. Here is a concise answer ....

From: "Andy Gay (3272)" <>:

You don't need tickadj on Solaris. Use "set dosynctodr=0" in to /etc/system.

Read the notes in hints/solaris, I use the script in there (without the tickadj line) to start xntpd on my 2.5 systems. Works fine.

Just ask if you need more help.

and my sincere apologies to the fine fellow from Sun. I don't know how I could have missed the fact that tick disappeared in the 2.3 kernel. Silly me.
