Use pine to read MIME attachments.

Sorry - you thought wrong. I believe that mailtool from Solaris 2.5 on
will handle MIME messages, otherwise you'll have to use another mail frontend
e.g. pine or elm.

No Way. :-) 2.5 (OW 3.3) upward maybe.

> What is the best way to get my mail to work correctly?

I have MIME Mails converted to empty Mails with a "Type MIME Mail"
SUN Attachment that I've defined to OW to run metamail on. Works
quite good, though you can't Reply-Included right away. :-} Send
a Mail to mailtool-sig@ti.uni-trier.de for an Autoreply.

Hi parks,

mailtool on 4.1.3_u1 does not include MIME..... I don't know for sure but mailtool on Solaris 2.4 or 2.5 does.

Please summarize, TIA, Rob

Dump mailtool, or upgrade to Solaris 2.5, which includes a new mailtool (part of CDE) which is MIME compatible. Or, you can buy the Z-Mail package. If you don't have to have a GUI, try out elm, which is freeware, and can be built with MIME support.

I ended up downloading a copy of elm from the internet, and in the Configure script it has an option to handle MIME. you'll also need to get a copy of metamail.

Parks,

Does this look familiar?

<---- Begin Attached File ----> begin 644 FILENAME.DOC

(what looks like garbage follows)

If it is, then you are recieving uuencoded attachments. Our mail server (as an example) automatically uuencodes attachments as they go out.

Save as a seperate mail file, but different from the name listed after "begin" (in this case, FILENAME.DOC).

In a shell window do this: #uudecode <mailfile_name>

You will then finally have FILENAME.DOC as a seperate, accessible file. You can now delete the seperate mail file. Yes, it IS a royal pain.

Go and get metamail...'mm2.7.tar.gz' from any large ftp site of your choice. That's how I fixed ours...

No. The first mailtail that supports MIME comes with Solaris 2.5.

> What is the best way to get my mail to work correctly?

Both pine and MH handle MIME, but don't handle mailtool-style enclosures (but then, nothing except mailtool does...).

I would like to here about it if your understanding is correct.

My (mis?)understanding is that MIME was not available via Mailtool unless the SunLink X.400 8.0.2 product is added.

Upgrade to Solaris 2.5. Also, if you wish to send MIME attachments you must install CDE and use dtmail instead of mailtool.
