Hi Sun Gurus,

Looks like I'm asking for too much. I've received only one reply from Cyril
Plisko, which I'm forwarding along with my original query. The summary is
that it is not possible to install nis+ on a SunOS 4.1.x client.
Thanks to Cyril and anyone whose reply is in transition.

Cyril's response
================

There is only server side implementation for SunOS
You can not run NIS+ client under SunOS.
The only way to live in NIS+ environment is to
run NIS+ in YP compatability mode and to run
YP client on SunOS boxes.

Original Query
==============

 Dear Sun Managers,
 I have a unique situation here. I greatly appreciate a response.
 I have configured a Sparc 20 running on Solaris 2.3 as a NIS + root server.
 It is not running NIS+ in YP-compatibility mode.
 I want to configure atleast 4 other Sparc 20 running SUN OS 4.1.3 as NIS+
 clients.
 From my knowledge, I have extracted NIS+ binaries for SUN OS from a Solaris
 2.4 (hardware3/95) CD. I've installed the binaries on a SUN OS box and
 configured it
 as a client using "nisinit -c -H bartender" where bartender is the NIS +
 server.
 The above part seems to work well. I am able to see all the NIS+ maps on the
 SUN OS machine. I have also added SUN OS clients credential on the NIS +
 server.
 The problem is no body can log ito the SUN OS client unless that person has
 a
 local password entry.
 Please tell me if what I am trying to achieve is possible.
 Thanks
