Thanks to all for the replies. Sounds like OSF and IXI dominate, but
nobody has had major problems. Also, we should be evaluating the
needs of specific applications we intend to use. Special thanks to:

We just bought version 2 of Motif from OSF direct - academic site
license $1000. It was the best deal for us to get Motif on Sun under
SunOS.

Sun also resells the Xdesigner package as part of "Visual SPARCworks".

I thought Sun was selling IXI's port.

We are using IXI bundled with the Telerate software on 400 Suns.

Sun Uses IXI's Motif. I am partial to OSF's. Cost was $2,000.00 from them
for the sources on a one time basis. I have built X11R5 and MOTIF on both
SunOS4 and SunOS5. There many hacks for the SLOWlaris port but it still
works.

Scott,

We bought Motif from IXI for our machines, principally because Oracle 7.x
and it's GUI products required it. The user pack is $149 US, and developer
pack is $699 US. The developer pack had the needed libraries which we
needed for relinking the Oracle CDE tools. The user pack had MWM which was
required for the GUI operation.

I would suggest that you see what the products which you will run on the
machine require and then make a choice. With Oracle, we had only one
choice, and that was the product which they had certified against their
products.
