Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for information re good
books on Solaris system administration. The following is the outcome :-

The most often recommended books were

Solaris: System Adminitrator's Guide (ISBN 1-56276-080-7)

Solaris: Advanced System Administrator's Guide (ISBN 1-56276-131-5),

which are both by Janice Winsor and published by Ziff-Davis. They come
with SunSoft's imprimatur, for what that's worth. One respondent (thanks
Laura) said that the Advanced book was handed out when she worked at
Sun, so that would seem like a good recommendation. One the other hand,
another respondent (thanks Richard) said that he did not find the
Advanced book to be all that advanced and he recommended

Solaris 2.x System Administrator's Guide (ISBN 0-07-029368-6)

by S. Lee Henry / John R. Graham, published by McGraw-Hill

I attach his comments verbatim - he's comparing it to Winsor's Advanced
System Administrator's Guide

This is a smaller book (approx 360 pages), but much more concise, & with
more technical depth. It doesn't include nearly as many walk-throughs,
but concentrates more on the concepts, & lets you work out the details
for yourself. I find it much more useful.

Also recommended were

Sun Performance & Tuning (ISBN 0-13-149642-5)
by Adrian Cockcroft, published by SunSoft Press
(though this is not, presumably, Solaris specific)

and

Configuration and Capacity Planning for Solaris (ISBN 0-13-349952-9).

by Brian Wong (no publisher mentioned)

Also mentioned was

Mastering Solaris 2 by Brent D Heslop and David F Angell.

I haven't seen this book, but I've a sneaking suspicion that it's not a
system admin. book at all.

The O'Reilly Nutshell books came up for honourable mention again and
again, with which assesment I concur. I've mentioned none specifically,
as none are Solaris specific, but they seem to be universally well
regarded (I didn't like the UUCP one ;-( though I've liked all the
others I've read)
