SUMMARY: ex post facto drivers...

greetings...

Most of the responses followed a common thread "boot -r" (and 1 "reboot"),
although "touch /reconfigure" was also mentioned. As soon as I can pry the
grimies off the affected machines, I'll implement it.

All you need to do is 'reboot -r' (under Solaris), which will
make it probe for disks and rebuild with any necessary drivers.
It should then see the 4.X disk, add drivers for it, and hey presto ...

Hello Larry,

boot -r is what you want...

see man drvconf (I think). I haven't used this personally, though.

Hi Larry:

You do have to build the driver for Solaris. Just connect the drive and reboot the solaris with -r option. This way, a device will be build and the drive will not be mounted until you add it to the vfstab. I have similar setup on my machine which one disk is solaris and another one is SunOs. I select which disk to boot from during boot time by using the PROM command boot diskx, where x is the scsi id of the disk. I hope this bits of info will shed some light to your problem.

Larry,

To make Solaris see any peripheral, all you have to do is

touch /reconfigure

and reboot.

When booting it will load all necessary drivers.
