Thanks to all who replied so quickly to my NIS question. I figured
that the answer was pretty simple, but since I am new to Sun & Solaris
I did not know exactly where to look.
The main concensus dealt with the /etc/nsswitch.conf file.
To turn off NIS+, I just set each one of the tokens (ex: hosts, passwd, etc)
to only look at files and for hosts it also included DNS:
passwd: files
hosts: dns files
