Thanks to the many who responded so quickly! The original post was:

> I have a need for an audio "reminder" to put in a tape for a backup
> once monthly. Could anyone enlighten me how I can play an audio
> file (created by OpenWindows audiotool) from a shell script executed
> by cron?

Special thanks to Dave Hightower who sent me the program "play."

There are two answers to my question:

1. Cat the file to /dev/audio (e.g. cat audiofile > /dev/audio)
2. Use the program "play" that is included in the Sun demo directory.

Both options work beautifully. Again, thanks to all who replied.

Robin
