I asked
I have a HP LaserJet 4Si Mx laser printer that I want to connect
to our Thick Ethernet network(AUI). Unfortunatly, the printer only has
thinnet and 10BaseT ethernet connections (plus localtalk).
I have a Milan 130 anytwist convertor which is a tranceiver which
converts from AUI to 10BaseT. So I can connect the printer with a RJ45
lead to the printer and the Milan convertor with an AUI connector to the drop
cable whose other end is connected to the AUI tranciever on the ethernet
backbone.
The printer complains with a LAN error - external loopback failed.
The question is, Is this the correct way to connect 10BaseT devices to
thick ethernet (we only have thick ethernet, no concentrators/Hubs)

The answer is :-
The Milan 130 does the job, however the cable I had was incorrectly
wired. The supplied twisted pair cable was a straight through cable,
whereas the cable that is needed is a crossed cable.
The pinout of the correct cable is
1 to 3
2 to 6
3 to 1
6 to 2
The printer now works just fine
