SUMMARY: su problem - SunOS 4.1.3

From: Mike Gruen (mikeg@Pima.GOV)
Date: Tue Jan 04 1994 - 01:05:40 CST

The original problem was that su wouldn't, with a message of either:
        su: setgid: Not owner
or:
        setgroups: Not owner
        su: initgroups failed

With my hat off to the folks who responded (see below) the solution was to reset
the permissions of the su command to:

        -rwsr-xr-x 1 root 6968 Oct 23 1991 /usr/bin/su

as it should have been, and was previously.

I guess I'm not back up to speed, vacation's seem to turn my brain to mush, as I
hadn't thought to check the permissions before I turned to the list for help.

Anyway, many thanks to:

 Neil W Rickert <rickert@cs.niu.edu>
Ian MacPhedran <Ian_MacPhedran@engr.usask.ca>

for their prompt responses, and a special thanks to

Dave Fetrow <fetrow@biostat.washington.edu>

who reminded me about the need to replace sendmail with the latest patch
release.
