Hi Gurus,

Original question :

> Does anybody have experience in setting up the above mentionned configuration ?
>
> GCC :
> - Which version ?
The most recent is 2.5.5

> - Are there already precompiled binaries available ?
Yes, but not from the most recent version :
        prep.ai.mit.edu:/pub/gnu/sparc-solaris-"something" (not tested, always busy)
        or all its mirrors :
        ftp.uu.net:/pub/gnu/solaris 2.4.5 binaries
        and others...

> - If not, how did you bootstrap the compiler ?
In any case, those binaries should allow you to bootstrap the most recent version.

> - Solaris 2.{23} has no compiler anymore! Does it have the assembler,
> the linker and the libraries or does one need to use the GNU products.
It doesn't have the compiler, but it has all the other tools.

> MIT X11R5 :
> - Could you build MIT X11R5 as easily under Solaris 2.{23} as under
> SunOS 4.1.x ?
Few people tried as Solaris already has X11R5.
It seems that there are some special patches to make it work (which ones ?,
where to find them ?).

> Motif 1.1.4 :
> - Does it run under this configuration or do we need 1.2 or above ?
1.1.5 does.

> - Did you encounter any special problems during the built.
1.2 seems to build fine. No statement about 1.1.x.
