SUMMARY: HP-Managers List

I appreciate the overwhelming number of "ME TOO" responses I
received. I also received several that pointed out newsgroups and
        on-line databases, these I've included.

Someone suggested that a HP-managers group be started. I don't have
the resources, or the know how to implement their suggestion but
I think this is a great idea.

My brief summary reflects the fact no interactive forum-type solution
was found. Access to on-line data repositories is not as effective
as an active interchange of ideas.

It's unfortunate that vendors do not provide forum based access
to systems integrators like ourselves. It would seem to be to their
own marketing advantage to allow customers and engineering teams
to share real life integration concerns. This would provide true
customer feedback on their own products and computing solutions.

For the record I have access to the HP-support line but as I
stated earlier it not as effective.

                                        Sincerely

        Original Message:

We've recently been forced upon to managed 70+ HP workstations
rather than real machines. The decision was political as well
        as financial.

I'm looking for an HP-Managers group similar to our sun-managers
group. Does any one know if one exists? How can I subscribe to
        it ?

        Responses :

        Gino -

FWIW, I managed HP nets (ick) for several years along with
"real UNIX" (tm). I know of no mailing list for HP at all.

I am *very* happy to be back on Suns again and away from HP.

The newsgroup comp.sys.hp (and maybe swnet.sys.hp) would
        probably be your best bet.

        Hope this helps !

Dear networker,

Your subscription to list HPMINI-L (Hewlett-Packard 9000 Series MiniComputer
Discussion) has been accepted.

You may leave the list at any time by sending a "SIGNOFF HPMINI-L" command to
LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.BITNET (or LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU). Please note that this
command must NOT be sent to the list address (HPMINI-L@UAFSYSB) but to the
LISTSERV address (LISTSERV@UAFSYSB).

The amount of acknowledgement you wish to receive from this list upon
completion of a mailing operation can be changed by means of a "SET HPMINI-L
option" command, where "option" may be either "ACK" (mail acknowledgement),
"MSGACK" (interactive messages only) or "NOACK".

Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can obtain a
list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX HPMINI-L" command to
LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.BITNET (or LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU). These files can then be
retrieved by means of a "GET HPMINI-L filetype" command, or using the database
search facilities of LISTSERV. Send an "INFO DATABASE" command for more
information on the latter.

Please note that it is presently possible for anybody to determine that you
are signed up to the list through the use of the "REVIEW" command, which
returns the network address and name of all the subscribers. If you do not wish
your name to be available to others in this fashion, just issue a "SET HPMINI-L
CONCEAL" command.

More information on LISTSERV commands can be found in the LISTSERV reference
card, which you can retrieve by sending an "INFO REFCARD" command to
LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.BITNET (or LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU).

Virtually,

   The LISTSERV management
