Mostly people wanted to know about solaris 2.3 I am running 2.3 beta 1.3.
I whant to mount /usr and /opt read only as read only nfs mounts are more
efficient. Also for cacheing readonly is much better.
The solution seams to be that yes they can be mounted read only. I am
currently mounting /opt read only with automount and cacheing localy to disk.
I found that you can not cache /usr but on the same machine I am mounting /usr
read only. This machine has been up now for about 24 hours with no problems.
This machine is a sparc 1 with 16 Meg meorry:
forrestal% uname -a
SunOS forrestal 5.3 beta1.3 sun4c sparc
forrestal% df -k
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c0t3d0s0 19107 12273 4924 71% /
enterprise:/export/enterprise1/SunOS_5.3/usr

/cache/cache/.cfs_mnt_points/enterprise:_export_enterprise1_SunOS_5.3_openwin
                     1188910 638921 431098 60% /usr/openwin
enterprise:/export/enterprise2/deal
                     1952573 1610960 146356 92% /home/deal
enterprise:/export/enterprise1/local_sun4
                     1188910 638921 431098 60% /usr/local
/cache/cache/.cfs_mnt_points/enterprise:_export_enterprise1_SunOS_5.3_opt
                     1188910 638921 431098 60% /opt

the last four are automounted with /usr/openwin and /opt cached
/usr/openwin , /opt , /usr/local , and /usr are mounted read only.
