Thanks to:

Anthony A. Datri <aad@scr.siemens.com>
Eirik Fuller <eirik@elf.ithaca.ny.us>
Peter Dalgaard <kubipdal@uts.uni-c.dk>

who all pointed out that I was missing the line:

options LOFS

from my kernal configuration file.
