The good news is that xterm can perform a lot of functions - things like
scrolling the page about, etc. for key presses. The bad news is that there
is no searching (well, there are LOTS of bad news type things about
xterm - this is just one of them). If you turn on logging when you start
up the xterm, then you could skip the scroll bar and just look in the
log file. Of course if you have a lot of those xterms running, then
there would be a lot of log files taking up disk space somewhere.
