A while back I posed a question to the netters asking abiout a tar utility
that could read off individual files without extra junk between them
(sort of fill in the gap up to the 512 byte limit). A few responses said
they did not understand what I wanted, but most stated that it would be
best to try gnu's tar implementation. It can be picked up via anonymous
ftp from prep.ai.mit.edu.
