Greetings,
Many thanks to :
        david@srv.PacBell.COM (David St. Pierre)
        turtle@sciences.sdsu.edu (Andrew Scherpbier)
The solution was to add an entry in the sendmail.cf file for each site that
we maintain an MX record for.
David suggested :
add something like this in your sendmail.cf (S0):

        R$*<@$*PREMENOS.COM>$* $#$M $@$R $:enlil!$2premenos.com!$1

where $M = uucp in my case and $R is my internal UUCP gateway.
Andrew forwarded a piece of his sendmail.cf file :
In S0, we have the following:
        #
        # Local sites that we do Internet mail forwarding for via MX records.
        #
        #
        # Route for user@domain and user@machine.domain to uucp
        #
        R$*<@sherlock.encinitas.ca.us>$* $1<@sherlock.uucp>$2
        R$*<@sunburst.com>$* $1<@sunburst.uucp>$2
        R$*<@resun.com>$* $1<@blkhole.uucp>$2
        R$*<@$+.resun.com>$* $2.resun.com!$1<@blkhole.uucp>$3
I ended up testing a configuration file with an entry using Andrew's format
and it worked great! Thanks for the help!
