[SUMMARY] hostnames

Regarding uppercase hostnames, since Sun "advertises"
that hostnames should be lowercase, it is a de facto
standard; programs are not required nor expected to
"downcase" the host's name prior to comparing. They
may chose to do so, or may chose to do a case-insensitive
compare, but it is up to the programmer.

Using uppercase hostnames makes you vulnerable to
application specific problems.

In respect for the privacy of those responding via
email, I will not post the replies, but you know
who you are, and thank you :-)
