I received a of suggestions, for which I am grateful to:

murray@akeila.mech.utah.edu (Joe Murray)
Joe P. DeCello <jpd@tardis.cl.msu.edu>
paul@naicu.edu (Paul A. Hepp)
hkatz@nucmed.NYU.EDU (Henry Katz)
mikem@ll.mit.edu (Michael J Maciolek)
Jason.Hargis@PII.COM (Jason Hargis)
baumann@proton.llumc.edu (Michael Baumann)
rick%pgt1@Princeton.EDU (Rick Mott)
gwolsk@sei.com (Guntram Wolski)
Fereydoun Tavangary 503-627-6717 DS 58-555 <ft@heart.tv.tek.com>
matt@wbst845e.xerox.com (Matt Goheen)
"Ingo Cyliax" <cyliax@cs.indiana.edu>

Most people recommended going the "repair depot" route, rather
than pitching this board and buying a new one. Sun themselves
will repair the Sparc 1+ board on a 30-day, 7-day, or overnight
basis, costing $620, $810, and $1050, respectively. (The
overnight repair involves them shipping a replacement board,
for which they must have a PO for the *full* price of a new
board--I was quoted $7,254; after they receive your bad
board, they credit back the difference between this charge
and the $1050 repair charge.)

Other depot outfits recommended included, with phone numbers
provided by the suggesters:

Rave (800-966-7283)--2 mentions
WorldWide Technology Exchange (404-365-7796)
Apex (206-867-1900)
Polaris (800-541-5831)
Eakins Open Systems (Sunnyvale, CA, no phone number given)
Pinnacle (Ohio, no phone number given)

Someone from Polaris actually called me and quoted prices
significantly below Sun's--in the range of $500 for a 7-day
repair.

A couple of people suggested trading the board in on a
Sparc 2 or Sparc 10 board, as several vendors have such
upgrade programs.

One person asked if he could buy the bad board from me.

Again, thanks to all.
