and anyone else that replies between now and when I send this out. There
are a number of ftp sites for Sun patches, I am appending the most pertinent
of the replies. Many people suggested I check archie, which I had heard of,
but I didn't know enough about how to use it. Now I do, thanks.

John,

have you tried Archie? it often found me specific Sun patches.
We have patch 100343-02 on liasun3.epfl.ch under /pub/sun-fixes.

Have fun,

This was posted few months ago on this list.......... ------------------ Subject: How to get SunOS 4.1.1 patches via anonymous FTP

Recently, I've seen a few requests for SunOS patches sent to this list. I have several SunOS 4.1.1 patches obtained either directly from Sun or from ftp.uu.net:/sun-dist. To save space, I have removed support for all versions of the OS except 4.1.1. If you need patches for an earlier version, I can't help you.

The patches are available via anonymous FTP to ftp.math.ksu.edu in /pub/sunos.4.1.1.patches. If you can't FTP please don't ask me to mail patches to you -- have a ftp mailserver grab it for you. -------------------- Hope this will help.

( I had asked if all sun patches were available somewhere. Also, about ldd doing a core dump - Summary for both is attached).

About "ldd", it does a core dump when it tries to do an 'ldd /etc/ld.so.cache' - no fixes yet.

A pretty comprehensive collection of patches for SunOS's are available via anonymous FTP from:

nic.funet.fi in pub/unix/sun princeton.edu in pub/sun-fixes

A couple of people mentioned that they spoke to Sun regarding this, and the reply they got from Sun was that "they can only have patches when they find a problem, because some patches clash and need fine tuning depending on the hardware and software". All I have to add to this is that Sun better get its act together before people start weighing the support disadvantages against the hardware advantages. ************************************************************************** Return-Path: <hrose@eff.org> Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1992 20:01:31 -0400 To: jdschn@nicsn1.monsanto.com (John D Schneider) Subject: ftp site for Sun patches

I would have checked archie if I were you.

But you didn't, so I checked it for you.

When I lost my list of ftp sites I consulted one of the "archie" servers. They will search databases to find just about whatever general purpose program or file you need and tell you where you can get them via anonymous ftp.

You can either rlogin as "archie" to one of the servers (one is at "quiche.cs.mcgill.ca") and enter "prog 100343" for an on-line search or send mail to "archie@quiche.cs.mcgill.ca" with "prog 100343" as the first line of the e-mail message. When you use the E-mail method, it mails the results of the search back to you.

The archie servers have worked great for me.

Hey, I got an answer back while writing this:.......
