First of all, a big thanks to everyone who overwhelmed my mailer
with replies. It turns out that such a problem can be attributed to
any of the following:
Being in >8 groups
Having a blank line at the end of the NIS group file
Not having root access in /etc/exports
My problem primarily was the latter. I recently, for reasons of space, made
/export/local on my server, and mounted it on /usr/local. But I forgot to give
it root access in /etc/exports. So although /usr was exported with root, and mounted
read-write, and so worked fine, /usr/local would change all root accesses to 'nobody'
So it doesn't seem to have been a bug, just an oops in setup that I wouldn't even have
though of without all your help. THANKS!
Now, does anybody else have a problem with some users running SunView, some running
OpenWindows, and so the SunView users end up with multiple selection_svc processes
leading to those wonderful "Can't get shelf" and "Permission Denied on /tmp/MT234c3"
errors? Anyone know how to solve this? I had a machine with 3 selection_svc's
Big thanks to:
