NSE: summary of responses

I'd like to amend the original question to ask about experiences in
mixed environments (Vaxes and Suns). Most of our machines are suns, but
we have to build things on vaxen as well. Does NSE permit this in a
reasonable fashion? Or should we stick with RCS/SCCS (we have both) and
write our own higher-level tools (obviously this is always subjective,
but any opinions would be welcome).

Also, our environment presently includes Lisp (Lucid) as well as C and
Fortran (yup, we've mixed all three languages). Does NSE support Lisp
in any way, shape, or form?
